M. Gee et al., ROTATORY INTRAARTICULAR DISLOCATION OF THE PATELLA IN 2 DOGS, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 209(12), 1996, pp. 2082-2084
Rotatory intra-articular dislocation of the patella is an unusual cond
ition, apparently traumatic in origin, that affects young dogs. In rot
atory intra-articular dislocations, the proximal and middle portions o
f the patella become traumatically separated from the parapatellar fib
rocartilage and the basis patellae rotates caudodistally within the jo
int. As the basis patellae rotates distally, it can become lodged in t
he intercondyloid fossa of the femur, necessitating open reduction.
