Different kinds of controlled pore glasses (CPG) were modified with ga
mma-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS) in toluene or water solution. The
ir porous characteristics were changed as a result of this silane trea
tment in different ways, depending on the initial pore structure of th
e glasses. The results obtained clearly showed that APS deposition fro
m toluene led to the formation of an aminopropylsiloxane multilayer on
the surface of the CPG, whereas when deposited from its water solutio
n a monolayer coverage was obtained.
