A model reaction of 1,3,5-tris(5-acenaphthenyl)benzene oxidation with
lead tetraacetate was studied. It was shown that thermal desacetoxylat
ion of acetoxyacenaphthenyl groups is intensive at 200-degrees-C. Acen
aphthenyl-containing oligophenylene, synthesized by polycyclocondensat
ion of 5-acetylacenaphthene with 4,4'-diacetyl diphenyl oxide was used
, under optimum conditions for the model reaction, to prepare oligophe
nylene with acetoxyacenaphthenyl groups. The latter compound was then
converted into a thermally stable three-dimensional polymer by stepped
treatment at 200 - 250-degrees-C.
