The algebraic approach to scattering allows the determination of S-mat
rices associated to a potential group describing the interaction regio
n, through contraction and expansion mechanisms connecting the potenti
al and asymptotic Lie algebras. We show that this procedure can be gen
eralized to the SO(q)(2, 1) algebra and extract the corresponding S-ma
trix. Possible applications of a three-dimensional generalization of o
ur results are also discussed.
