Kn. Mehrotra et al., A STUDY OF THE PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF STRONTIUM PALMITATE, Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, 70(1), 1993, pp. 19-23
The infrared absorption spectrum confirms the ionic nature of strontiu
m palmitate. The specific conductane, density, viscosity and ultrasoni
c velocity for soap solutions in a solvent mixture of chloroform and p
ropylene glycol (70:30, v/v) at 40-degrees are found to increase with
increasing soap concentration. The CMC (0 01 M) has been determined. T
he values of degree of dissociation for the solutions (.17-0.42) sugge
st that the metal soap behaves as a weak electrolyte in solutions. The
density results have been explained on the basis of Root's equation w
hereas equations of Einstein, Vand, Moulik and Jones-Dole have been fo
und to be applicable to these soap solutions The ultrasonic velocity m
easurements have been used to study the ion-solvent interactions and t
he results satisfactorily conform to the informations obtained from co
nductivity, density and viscosity measurements.
