Abstract
The inhibitive action of benzimidazole (BIA), and some of its derivati ves, viz. 2 aminobenzimidazole (ABIA), 2-hydroxybenzimidazole (HBIA) a nd 5-carboxybenzimidazole (CBIA) towards corrosion and dezincification of 70/30 brass in ammonia solution has been investigated using weight -loss, solution analysis and galvanostatic polarisation techniques. Al l the compounds have been found to follow langmuir adsorption isotherm and behave as mixed inhibitors. Inhibitive efficiency was found to fo llow the order: ABIA > HBIA > BIA > CBIA.
