64 skin and mammary neoplasms of 56 dogs were examined by cytological
and histological methods. It was the aim of this study to evaluate fin
e needle aspiration, imprint and scraping techniques as methods of pro
viding samples for cytological diagnosis. Neoplasia was detected in 57
of all cases examined. In 35 instances, the histogenetic origin of th
e tumor was determined correctly. A specific diagnosis was attained fo
r 34 tumors. In conclusion, cytological methods provide a screening te
st for neoplasia.
