The influence of gamma radiation on liquid-crystalline properties of c
holesterol derivatives was studied. It was found that the temperature
of phase transitions depends linearly on the exposure dose in a wide r
ange of doses. The lower was the energy of radiation the greater effec
ts were observed. The exposure dose ratio did not affect a phase trans
ition temperature in a wide range of values. The observed effects were
greater for the compounds with shorter molecules and for less uniform
ed phases. The change of phase transition temperature was larger for m
ixtures than for individual compounds. Initial studies on the mechanis
m of radiolysis of cholesterol derivatives were done.
