Abstract
We have demonstrated self-mode locking of an NaCl:OH- color-center las er by exploiting the Kerr effect in a rod of high-nonlinearity glass p laced within the laser cavity. The mode-locking process was initiated by a regenerative acousto-optic modulation, and sub-100-fs pulses were produced at wavelengths of approximately 1575 nm.
