Drawing on United Kingdom experience of community involvement in major
physical development schemes, this article presents eight key feature
s essential for successful community involvement. Additionally, an eig
ht point political agenda for action outlines what is required, to pro
vide the recognition, support and funding so badly needed to resource
U.K. initiatives. The conclusion is that community involvement must be
come the norm rather than the exception.
