A new method for the determination of pore size distribution in porous
materials has been developed. The method is based on measuring the pr
obability of solubilized macromolecules to penetrate the pore space of
a solid substrate. In the absence of any interaction between the macr
omolecules and the matrix of the porous material, the value of the pro
bability is determined only by ratio of sizes of the macromolecules an
d the pores. A special software package was developed for slit, cylind
rical, and mixed pores.
