Abstract
Single package air-drying type urethane resins have been prepared usin g non-traditional Argemone Seed Oil (Argemone Maxicana). NN-Bis-Hydrox yethyl Argemone Amide (HEAA) was prepared by condensation of Argemone oil with diethanolamine using zinc oxide as catalyst. HEAA was reacted with varying amount of phthalic anhydride to obtain a series of hydro xy terminated polyesteramides (HTPEA). HTPEA, were then reacted with a n aromatic diisocynate compound in varying NCO/OH ratios to prepare a series of urethane polyesteramide (UPEA). The physical properties and air-dried film properties of UPEA, were studied. Comparison of these p roperties for different resins reveal that a property formulated resin films exhibit satisfactory performance for their use as binders for i ndustrial maintenance coatings.
