Septicaemia and pneumonia caused by Salmonella dublin was diagnosed at
necropsy in an 18-month-old stirk based on the identification of pneu
monia, pleurisy, pericarditis, enteritis and necrotic foci in multiple
organ systems. Death followed a three-day history of depression, pyre
xia and the development of marked dyspnoea, but dysentery was not a fe
ature of the clinical disease. Treatment with chloramphenicol was inef
fective despite apparent early recognition of the clinical condition.
