F. Nez et al., OPTICAL FREQUENCY DETERMINATION OF THE HYPERFINE COMPONENTS OF THE 5S(1 2)-5D(3/2) 2-PHOTON TRANSITIONS IN RUBIDIUM/, Optics communications, 102(5-6), 1993, pp. 432-438
An absolute optical frequency measurement is made of the hyperfine com
ponents of the 5S1/2-5D3/2 two-photon transitions in rubidium with an
uncertainty of 1.3 x 10(-11). This is carried out in a simple way by t
aking advantage of the near coincidence between the two-photon frequen
cy at lambda=778 nm in Rb and the frequency difference of two HeNe las
ers, stabilized respectively to an iodine line at lambda=633 nm and a
methane transition at lambda=3.39 mum used as references. This measure
ment provides a new optical frequency reference in the visible range.
