The prophylaxis of infectious diseases for puppies raised in kennels d
epends on a reasoned vaccination protocol. In infected kennels, the pr
evention of disease by one particular agent uses vaccination of health
y animals. It is difficult to obtain a satisfying immunity in young pu
ppies (until 3 months of age), because of the possible persistance of
maternal derived antibodies, which prevent the response against Vaccin
e stimulation. This paper offers a comprehensive view oi vaccination i
n puppies, a description of the main features of infections in kennels
to justify immunoprophylaxis and the different vaccines that can be u
sed to prevent parvovirosis, canine distemper, canine adenovirosis (in
fectious hepatitis) and kennel cough. Last, the practical implementati
on of Vaccination protocols and legal aspects of vaccination are discu
ssed.
