Abstract
The main affections responsible for mortality and morbidity in the you ng dog appear above all in the new born and in the puppy at weaning. I n breeding kennels the affections can take the form of ''group disease s'' which affect whole groups of animals. In the post partum period th e aetiology can be poor management of the maternity unit in addition t o infectious factors. In the weaning period mainly digestive and respi ratory problems are seen. Exact diagnosis requires complementary exami nations serology, bacteriology and histology. Prophylaxis is based on the application of the main rules concerning hygiene and the proper us e of adequate vaccination and deworming programmes.
