Abstract
Trends in electron impact broadening and shift within spectral series are assessed using various theoretical calculations for Li I, Na I, C IV, and Si IV. Facile predictions, based on use of upper state ionizat ion potential as the appropriate variable for representing atomic stru cture (Puric et al. 1991), are used to compute electron impact broaden ing parameters for astrophysically interesting resonance and off reson ance lines of Fe I to Fe IV. Additional data are also predicted for se veral C IV and Si IV higher members of the investigated spectral serie s.
