A linear relationship has been found to exist between the aluminum-27
and gallium-71 NMR chemical shifts of a series of structurally analogo
us aluminum and gallium compounds having only oxygen in the first meta
l coordination spheres; deltaGa-71 = 2.83(deltaAl-27) - 4.50. This rel
ationship allows the prediction of Ga-71 chemical shifts for such gall
ium compounds from the Al-27 values already known for their aluminum a
nalogues, and also a greater understanding of observed Ga-71 chemical
shifts.
