Abstract
Comparative metabolism studies between 1,25(OH)2D3 and 1,25(OH)2-16-en e D3 in rat kidney indicate that both compounds are metabolized into t heir respective 24 hydroxy arid 24-oxo metabolites. While 1,25(OH)2-24 -oxo-D3 is further metabolized into 1,23,25(OH)3-24-oxo-D3 in the usua l fashion, 1,25(OH)2-24-oxo-16-ene D3 resists C-23 hydroxylation. Thus a minor change in D-ring structure appears to cause major changes in the side chain metabolism.
