Oxidation of bisnaphthols (1a-c) with DDQ resulted in the formation of
10a-a'', 10b-b'', 14a-c and 19a-c in addition to earlier reported pro
ducts. Structures were assigned on the basis of detailed spectral anal
yses(H-1, C-13, H-1-H-1 HOMOCOSY and FUCOUP). Structures 10b, 14c and
19a were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray analyses. The forma
tion of these compounds has been explained by a suitable mechanism.
