Do. Awange et Jf. Onyango, ORAL VERRUCOUS CARCINOMA - REPORT OF 2 CASES AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE, East African medical journal, 70(5), 1993, pp. 316-318
Verrucous carcinoma is a rare and distinct pathological and clinical v
ariant of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Two case report
s of histologically proven oral verrucous carcinoma are presented. One
case presented with a history of tobacco chewing, snuff taking and mi
raa chewing. While the relationship between tobacco chewing or snuff d
ipping and verrucous carcinoma has been investigated and described, th
e role played by miraa chewing is still unknown and thus requires furt
her study. Both cases were successfully managed by only conservative s
urgical excision. No radiotherapy was used. Clinical and histo-patholo
gical examination of verrucous carcinoma is therefore very important i
n its diagnosis and treatment planning.
