LI-7 PRODUCTION IN SOLAR-FLARES

The Yohkoh satellite has registered X-ray spectra of two solar flares with a linelike feature in the region 400-500 keV. Analysis shows that this feature can be interpreted as gamma-ray lines from excited Li-7 and Be-7 produced from alpha + alpha reactions. The Li-7 production ra te in the solar atmosphere is estimated from these observations. The l ower limit on the flare-produced Li-7 abundance on the Sun is determin ed. This value is several times less than that obtained from optical o bservations of the solar atmospheric Li-7.
