This article presents a brief synopsis of the United States Department
of Agriculture Forest Service's current rural community assistance ef
forts. The Forest Service, in close cooperation with rural America, ha
s refocused its efforts from strict natural resource community product
ion to sustainable investment in the future of rural communities. By w
orking as a partner with rural America in identifying community needs
and solutions, the Forest Service wants to help rural residents pursue
and realize opportunities based upon available natural resources. The
Forest Service mission explicitly recognizes the agency's commitment
to help rural America address rural development concerns and remain a
vital contributor to the nation's competitiveness.
