BIOCHEMISTRY OF IGF-I AND IGF-II

The paper deals with biochemistry of two polypeptides, insulin-like gr owth factor-I and II (IGF-I and IGF-II). IGF-I and IGF-II are polypept ides structurally similar to each other as well as to insulin. The IGF s and insulin elicit similar biological responses (e.g. stimulation of DNA synthesis, cell differentiation, stimulation of glucose metabolis m). In this paper the structure, receptors, biological effects and IGF -binding proteins of IGF-I and II are discussed in detail.
