Dimethylaminobis(trifluoromethyl)borane, (CF3)2BNMe2 (A). reacts with
epoxides of the general formula O-CH2-CHR to yield five-membered heter
ocycles (CF3)2B-NMe2-CH2-CHR-O, R = Me (1), CH2F (2), CF, (3), Et (4),
Bz (5). With R - Ph a 1:2 mixture of the isomers (CF3)2B-NMe2-CH2-CHP
h-O (6a) and (CF3)2B-NMe2-CHPh-CH2-O (6b) is obtained. To the contrary
, O-CH2-CMe2 and A form the borane-dimethylamine adduct (H2C=CMe-CH2-O
)(CF3)2B.NHMe2 (7). The compounds have been characterized by elemental
analyses, multinuclear NMR, IR and mass spectra.
