Abstract
Crystals of the complexes [CdI2.C6H12S3]2 (1) and [Hg(C6H12S3)2](HgI3) , (2) were obtained by diffusion of 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane (9S3) in ethanol into aqueous solutions of cadmium iodide and mercuric iodide/p otassium iodide, resp. Both compounds crystallize monoclinically, 1: s pace group P2(1)/n, Z = 4, a = 1207.1(5), b = 909.9(2), c = 1240.3(7) pm, beta = 92.59(9)-degrees; 2: P2(1)/c, Z = 2, a = 804.7(6), b = 934. 0(6), c = 2167.9(4) pm, beta = 94.34(7)-degrees. 1 is dimeric, consist ing of two [CdI2 . 9 S 3] units, connected via iodine bridges. Crystal s of 2 contain sandwich-like cations [Hg(9S3)2]2+ and [HgI3]- anions, forming chains via Hg ... S and Hg ... I bridges.
