Abstract
The accidental trigger rate, generated in a prompt-coincidence mode of operation, is extensively deployed in atmospheric Cerenkov telescopes as a reliable index of the 'health' of an experimental system. A nove l method of estimating this rate in these systems helps to overcome th e main shortcomings of the conventional approach, based on staggering outputs of various detector channels with respect to one another.
