S. Gullenstern et al., SEMIINCLUSIVE POLARIZED LEPTON NUCLEON-SCATTERING AND THE ANOMALOUS GLUON CONTRIBUTION, Physics letters. Section B, 312(1-2), 1993, pp. 166-172
We discuss a new observable for semi-inclusive pion production in pola
rised lepton-nucleon collisions. This observable is sensitive to the p
olarised and unpolarised strange quark distribution and the anomalous
gluon contribution, provided that their fragmentation functions into p
ions differ substantially from that of light quarks. From Monte Carlo
data generated with our PEPSI code we conclude that HERMES might be ab
le to decide whether the polarized strange quark and gluon distributio
ns are large.
