Abstract
trans-Fe(Ph2PPY)2(CO)3 reacts as a neutral tridentate ligand with Mo(C O)6, Ni(NCS)2, [Rh(CO)2Cl]2, CuX (Cl, Br, I) and Hg(SCN)2 to form binu clear complexes including an Fe-M bond. Crystal and molecular structur es of the Fe-Hg complex has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The Fe-Hg bond distance is 2.648 angstrom. The effects have been evaluated of these complexes as homogeneous catalysts on the carbonylation of e thanol to ethyl propionate. The Fe-Rh complex possesses very high acti vity and selectivity.
