Abstract
Simple methods are proposed to elucidate the basic symmetry components in order to understand the structure of polyhedral cage clusters. Suc h methods reduce the three-dimensional structure to two-dimensional pi ctures and allow the easier visualization and counting of vertices, ed ges and polygonal faces. Illustrations are given using examples of C60 , C70, C50 and C28 clusters, atomic aluminium and argon clusters and p entagonal dodecahedron water clusters.
