Poly(p-phenylenevinylene), PPV, is one of the most promising candidate
s among the conjugated polymers for use in all-optical signal processi
ng or as the active layer in light emitting diodes. Here, a low-temper
ature route to PPV is reported which makes the synthesis compatible wi
th many of the thermoplastic polymers used in microelectronics and opt
ics. The applicability of this route to device fabrication is also add
ressed.
