Abstract
We report an experimental study of second-harmonic generation at a sil ver diffraction grating when counterpropagating surface plasmons are e xcited with a single pump beam. In the surface plasmon minigap, no sec ond-harmonic light is observed in the specular direction, whereas a st rong signal is detected in the direction normal to the mean plane of t he grating.
