Abstract
The deposition onto the wall of a cylindrical tube of charged particle s that are suspended in a fluid filling or flowing through the tube is formulated in terms of an initial value problem to an appropriate con tinuity equation. An exact analytical solution is found in an implicit function form and explicit approximate formulae are derived. Our form ulation has an advantage over a previous approach by Yu in that it giv es as a result not only the deposition efficiency, but also the radial profile of the concentration of charged particles as a function of ti me. We demonstrate that the two approaches give the same formula for t he deposition efficiency. We also demonstrate the equivalence between the stationary initial value problem and the steady state flow problem .
