Abstract
Two different parity single-particle levels with asymptotic quantum nu mbers [N, N, 0]1/2 and [N - 1, N - 2, 1]1/2 are almost degenerate at s uperdeformation near the fermi surface for Z = 66 and N = 86 or 112. W e found that the effect of the spin-orbit coupling force becomes small er for these parity doublet levels because of the strongly deformed qu adrupole field. Then the L - S coupling scheme is recovered for them, indicating the real spin is responsible for the quantization of alignm ent. As long as the spin-orbit interaction is negligible, the superdef ormed levels can be described by SU(3) group with eight generators and Casimir operator.
