Abstract
The anatomy of the lid-cornea-tear film juncture and its influence on the fitting of rigid, gas-permeable contact lenses has been analyzed. Keratoconus can be associated with the floppy-eyelid syndrome. Patient s with unusual skin disorders such as xeroderma pigmentosum, acanthosi s nigricans, ichthyosis, and adnexal amyloidosis have been described a nd the characteristics of the disease as well as the treatment modalit ies have been depicted. Cicatricial pemphigoid of the conjunctiva can be halted in many cases; therefore, a more precise staging system is r ecommended. Once stabilized, various surgical procedures can temporari ly rehabilitate some patients. More sophisticated procedures can impro ve involutional and cicatricial entropion and paralytic ectropion.
