S. Jameson, STATISTICAL-DATA SUPPORT PREDICTION OF DEATH WITHIN 6 MONTHS ON LOW-LEVELS OF COENZYME-Q(10) AND OTHER ENTITIES, The Clinical investigator, 71(8), 1993, pp. 190000137-190000139
Ninety-four consecutive hospital patients aged over 50 years were incl
uded in a cross-sectional study. Serum samples were analyzed for coenz
yme Q10, alpha-tocopherol, and free cholesterol levels. Patients who d
ied within a follow-up period of 6 months or had congestive heart fail
ure or severe myalgia, and/or received cytostatic or lipid-lowering dr
ug therapy showed significantly lower free cholesterol-related coenzym
e Q10 values. Prospective controlled clinical trials will determine wh
ether coenzyme Q10 has a potential to protect patients from such compl
ications and become a useful therapy.
