P. Boulas et al., FACILE PREPARATION OF THE C-60 MONOANION IN APROTIC-SOLVENTS, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 140(8), 1993, pp. 120000130-120000132
A facile method of C60- monoanion preparation in various aprotic solve
nts is presented and interpreted in terms of the Nernst electrochemica
l equilibria. The method consists of reduction of C60 with mercury in
the presence of tetraalkylammonium halide. The C60- radical product, c
ontaining traces of C-60(2-), is detected and identified by electron s
pin resonance spectroscopy. The selectivity of the method is tuned by
a proper selection of solvent, tetraalkylammonium halide, and its conc
entration.
