Following the introduction of ISO 9002, the Groningen factory of Suike
r Unie received a certificate of sugar quality. Aside from the formal
certification in accordance with the rules of ISO 9002, quality assura
nce was achieved by raising the quality consciousness of the entire wo
rk force. This report describes the necessary steps of organization, d
ocumentation and certification review as well as the measures taken to
update the system and to inform customers. The quality consciousness
of the work force was raised by systematic training and the collective
search for hidden quality shortcomings, but above all by participatio
n in the formulation of instructions, responding immediately to propos
als aimed at quality improvement, and constant information. Special at
tention is devoted to obtaining a rapid campaign startup as the precon
dition for the early achievement of the projected quality.
