Abstract
The dynamics of the electron density and luminosity of a non-self-sust ained microwave discharge in nitrogen are studied experimentally. The stability of uniform burning is measured as a function of the external discharge parameters. A kinetic mechanism is proposed for the increas ed rate of ionization that causes the instability of a non-self-sustai ned discharge.
