S. Farenc et al., AN IN-SITU STUDY OF PRISMATIC GLIDE IN ALPHA-TITANIUM AT LOW-TEMPERATURES, Acta metallurgica et materialia, 41(9), 1993, pp. 2701-2709
In situ experiments have been performed in two titanium ingots with di
fferent purities in a view to studying the glide mechanism of a disloc
ations in prismatic planes between 100 and 300 K. The observation of t
he jerky movement of rectilinear screw dislocations leads to the concl
usion that the strain rate is controlled by the locking-unlocking mech
anism. Local stress measurements reproduce well the variation of the m
acroscopic CRSS with temperature. The stress dependence of the locking
-unlocking mechanism and the core structure of dislocations are discus
sed.
