Bl. He et al., STUDY ON THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NOVEL IMMOBILIZED BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN POLYMER .1., Science in China. Series B, Chemistry, life sciences & earth sciences, 36(7), 1993, pp. 785-795
A series of novel beta-cyclodextrin polymers was synthesized by immobi
lization of beta-cyclodextrin on the chloromethylated crosslinked poly
styrene carriers. The synthetic conditions such as reaction time, temp
erature, molar feeding ratio of reactants, the degree of crosslinking
of polystyrene and the catalysts used were studied in detail and the c
hemical and physical structures of the formed beta-CDpolymers were cha
racterized. Results show that the preparation method is simple and the
amount of beta-CD immobilized is high. As biomedical adsorbents, they
were tested for removal of various endogenous and exogenous toxins su
ch as phenols, aromatic amins, barbitals and unconjugated bilirubin. R
esults indicate that the adsorption capacity for those toxins can be e
nhanced by the inclusion interaction among the beta-CD, the substrate
molecules and the beta-CD polymers.
