Bhl. Gowda et Mm. Sitheeq, INTERFERENCE EFFECTS ON THE WIND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION ON PRISMATIC BODIES IN TANDEM ARRANGEMENT, Indian Journal of Technology, 31(7), 1993, pp. 485-495
The interference effects on the pressure distribution on the various f
aces of prismatic bodies in tandem arrangement are presented in this p
aper. Bodies with square cross-section and height to width ratio (h/b)
of 1 and 5 are considered. These sizes respectively are typical of lo
w-rise and high-rise category of buildings. The bodies are exposed to
a velocity profile satisfying the 1/7th power law. The results show th
at the interference effects are in general more severe for the taller
body. For this case, when the bodies are in close proximity, the rear
body experiences a negative drag force or a thrust force. For both siz
es the interference effects persists even at sufficiently large spacin
gs between the bodies. Flow visualisation results presented give a phy
sical insight on this complex flow situation.
