A stretched laminar flamelet model is used to simulate the turbulent c
ombustion in a ram combustor with jet stabilized flames using a 28-ste
p reaction mechanism with 10 species. Favre averaging is employed for
the three-dimensional governing equations for continuity, momenta, mix
ture fraction and the Variance of mixture fraction. Turbulence is simu
lated by a low Reynolds number k-epsilon model which is also Favre ave
raged. The presumed-PDF method is used for the closure of the chemistr
y. For this purpose a beta-pdf is used for the mixture fraction and a
log-normal-pdf is used for the modeled scalar dissipation. All other m
ass averaged thermo-chemical variables are computed off-line after a c
onverged solution has been achieved. Solution of the continuity equati
on and the three momentum equations is achieved using the SIMPLER algo
rithm. An incomplete lower upper pre-conditioned conjugate gradient me
thod is used for the solution of the linearized system of equations. S
imulation results showing the recirculation zones, distribution of spe
cies and temperature are presented. Copyright (C) 1997 Elsevier Scienc
