Kr. Shah et Ag. Razaqpur, A 2-DIMENSIONAL FROST-HEAVE MODEL FOR BURIED PIPELINES, International journal for numerical methods in engineering, 36(15), 1993, pp. 2545-2566
The rigid-ice model of frost heave is one of the most comprehensive fr
ost-heave models but is restricted to one-dimensional cases in its pre
sent form. In this paper, the model is extended to two-dimensional pro
blems. The complete formulation of the partial differential equations
governing heat, moisture and ice transport in freezing soils is provid
ed. The equations are subsequently solved using the Galerkin finite el
ement method in space and the finite difference method in time. A comp
uter program is developed for the two-dimensional rigid-ice model. A c
ase of freezing around chilled gas pipeline is solved and the numerica
l results are compared with experimental values, with good agreement b
etween the two sets of results.
