Abstract
A mathematical model of a monolithic converter with axial parabolic ca talyst distribution is applied. Based on results of numerical model ca lculations, the improvement in performance of the catalytic converter is verified for the same quantity of precious metal, Furthermore, syst ems with parabolic axial catalyst distribution are shown to have short er warm-up times than systems with uniform axial catalyst distribution . An optimum parabolic catalyst distribution is calculated for a range of operating conditions.
