Abstract
The authors are members of an advisory bureau in Europe, offering the services mainly for large-scale pig breeders. The main purpose of the profit oriented Western-European pig farms with an industrial-like man agement system is: gain significant profits by a minimal human industr y. Owners of the large pig farms regularly apply for the veterinary '' investigation'' of their farms which is carried out by the advisory bu reaus. First, the farm is analysed according to the production indices and then short and long period target and action programs are elabora ted, the accomplishment (partial results) of them are controlled regul arly. It has been pointed out on the example of edema disease/E. colic omplex of the weaned piglets and MMA/SUGD/PHS of the periparturient so w that largescale pig breeding with proper veterinary advise may resul t in significant profits.
