The oxidation of Fe(II)(tmtaa)dagger by Cr(IV)O(TPP)dagger in pyridine
-tetrahydrofuran solution leads to the formation of the heterobimetall
ic complex [(py)(TPP)CrOFe(tmtaa)]. Crystal structure determination of
the bis-tetrahydrofuran solvate shows that the CrOFe linkage is almos
t linear [176.6(9)-degrees], while the Fe-tmtaa stereochemistry differ
s from that previously known for five-coordinate tmtaa complexes. Moss
bauer spectra and magnetic data (to 4 K) are reported for the solvent
free complex. The S = 3/2: S = 5/2 complex shows strong antiferromagne
tic coupling with a 2J value of - 299 cm-1.
