Ea. Boyle, COOL TROPICAL TEMPERATURES SHIFT THE GLOBAL DELTA-O-18-T RELATIONSHIP- AN EXPLANATION FOR THE ICE CORE DELTA-O-18-BOREHOLE THERMOMETRY CONFLICT, Geophysical research letters, 24(3), 1997, pp. 273-276
The discrepancy between central Greenland borehole temperatures and th
e isotopic composition of Last Glacial Maximum ice can be explained by
a shift in the delta(18)O-T relationship for the hydrological cycle l
inked to cooler tropical temperatures. This concept is illustrated usi
ng a simple Rayleigh distillation model. An estimate for alpha=Delta d
elta(18)O/Delta T (LGM-Holocene) of -0.37 parts per thousand/degrees C
is determined with a simple graphical technique.
