Preparation of Cd0.8Zn0.2S pellet has been carried out by co-precipita
tion method using CdCl2, ZnCl2 and thiourea in an alkaline Medium. The
Cd0.8Zn0.2S powder is polycrystalline in nature having optical energy
band gap equal to 2.5 eV. The pellets were prepared from Cd0.8Zn0.2S
powder by applying a pressure of 4 to 5 ton/sq cm for about ten min an
d were sintered in a silica tube furnace at 800-degrees-C in nitrogen
atmosphere for two hr. The electrical resistivity of sintered pellet i
s of the order of 10(2) ohm-cm and the pellets showed photovoltaic act
ivity in polysulphide electrolyte.
