Abstract
New quinolones 3, 6 and 9 annelated to either a 5-membered or a 6-memb ered lactone were designed as hybrids of antibacterial 4-quinolones an d antitumor epipodophyllotoxin derivatives. They were synthezised usin g ethyl henyl-4-hydroxy-1,2-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate 2 as a key intermediate. (C) 1997, Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
